Twinkies. Cockroaches. Koyie Hill in Chicago.
Very few things could survive a nuclear apocalypse, but Koyie Hill is clearly one of them. Today, thanks to a rash of catcher injuries, the Cubs reacquired long-time back-up catcher Koyie Hill from the Reds for cash. Hill signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals in the Spring, but bounced to the Reds’ minor leagues where he waited for a chance.
Presumably, he was waiting for Jim Hendry to call, but, no, the love affair between Hill and the Cubs was not Jim Hendry-centric! Apparently, it’s just a Cubs thing.
So back Hill comes, and he’ll join the Cubs in time for tonight’s game. I can barely breathe.
(Small, serious part: the Cubs were desperate, and understandably so. Hill knows a few of the Cubs’ pitchers, and can at least call and catch a good game. So what if he’s currently hitting .195/.250/.341 at AA…)
