The Cubs were on a national stage tonight, and they made sure to heed the advice of every mother to her son on his first date: “Just be yourself.”
The obvious problem? The Cubs’ selves this year aren’t particularly good at baseball.
Paul Maholm didn’t have it early, but he settled down into a decent start. The bullpen didn’t do much good thereafter, though, and the Cubs dropped the series.
The offense didn’t help things much either, and they made sure to pull their patented fake-out rally in the 9th (loading the bases with nobody out, but scoring just one).
