The Chicago Cubs are Dropping Ticket Prices for 2013
It won’t stop some folks from griping about the crummy product on the field, but the Chicago Cubs are going to reduce ticket prices for 2013. The move comes partly in response (I imagine) to the lowest attendance since 2003, and the first 100+ loss season in 46 years.
In general, ticket prices are 2% lower on average than they were last year, which doesn’t sound like much, but ticket prices usually go in only one direction – up. In the bleachers, the drop will be closer to 10%. That’s swell.
The Cubs are sticking with their tiered-game approach to pricing (a bunch of Marquee level games (the most desirable), some Platinum level games (second-most desirable), some Gold, some Silver, and some Bronze), but there will be fewer of those higher tier games in 2013, which will lead to lower overall prices. The Tribune published a look at prices for next year:
So, that’s the range on prices you can expect in 2013. You’ll notice that the prices on individual tickets are also now a couple bucks higher than season ticket holder tickets (which, to me, is a nice nod to the season ticket holders, who are so important to the Cubs’ consistent revenue base (see, I can treat anyone like an “asset,” not just Cubs players)).
Cubs.com has some additional details, including an early look at which games will be at the “Marquee” level.
