Perhaps the greatest revelation in the post-Dad world is that, late at night on Christmas Eve, I get to *be*
[SPOILER ALERT]
Santa Claus. When The Little Girl leaves out cookies for Santa tonight, I get to be the one who eats most of them – leaving only trace crumbs to suggest that Santa had been there in her very house, breaking any number of property laws, in the name of bringing joy. It’s pretty awesome. Ditto watching ‘A Christmas Story’ tonight, and reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ just before she goes to bed. And then spreading out the gifts, stuffing the stocking, curling up with The Wife by the lighted tree … I’m excited.
And, with that in mind, you’re going to see limited posting from now through tomorrow (Christmas Day), resuming regular-ish posting on Wednesday (with a fresh podcast on Thursday). Christmas Day has become my informal/formal only day off of the year, so I’m going to take it with vigor. For the story on why taking the day off is special to me, here’s last year’s version of this post.
If news breaks, or if there’s an exceedingly juicy rumor that simply can’t wait, I suppose I’ll drag myself out of a long Winter’s nap to cover it. Otherwise, I’ll see you on Wednesday.
A very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours. The holiday season is also the unofficial birthday of BN, having been formed over a few day period after Christmas back in 2008. So, happy fourth birthday, BN. Thanks to all of you for making this such a great place.
