To be clear, I don’t think we’ve reached any kind of stage where we need to be more worried about Matt Garza’s “mildly” strained left lat than we were when it first occurred. But …
It’s been one week since Matt Garza had the MRI which confirmed that mild strain, and one week since he was informed that he should rest for a week before starting to throw again. So, that week is now up, and Garza isn’t throwing yet.
No one seems to be concerned, but the Cubs haven’t even scheduled his next throwing session because he hasn’t yet received medical clearance. Garza says he could throw now if the Cubs would let him, but he still feels a spot that’s “a little annoying.” He wouldn’t call it “pain,” but obviously it’s a little something.
As of now, there is no firm timetable for his next pitching session. Hopefully that changes in the next day or so, although Garza still has plenty of time to get ready for the start of the season, which is more than a month away.
