Tinkering With My (Dominant) BN Fantasy Contest Roster During the Breaks Today

cat computerLike you, when I sign up for a free, one-day fantasy baseball contest to be played among friends and contemporaries, and I want to win. And when there is $300 in prize money on the line, I want to win even more. (Full details on the contest here. If you haven’t signed up already, you’ve got less than 24 hours to get in.)

So, like you, I’ve been tinkering with my roster for the contest this week, trying to get it just right – and just under my $100,000 budget – for tomorrow’s games.

I don’t want to give up the entirety of my roster, but, like any good Cubs fan, I had been giving serious consideration to having Jeff Samardzija be my ace. The problem? Last night’s rainout pushed his start to Saturday, so he’s no longer pitching on the day of the contest. In his stead, I’m now giving serious consideration to Matt Cain, who will be startingĀ againstĀ the Cubs.

Here’s the way I see it: if Cain dominates the Cubs, I’ll be pissed about another (probably) Cubs loss, but at least I’ll be happy that Cain scored me a ton of points. On the other hand, if the Cubs blast Cain, even if it sinks my fantasy roster, I’ll be plenty happy. Win/win. Er, is that win/loss?

Even without Samardzija, for now, I’m still a total homer and have Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo on my roster. I know, I know – I just told you my Cain strategy. So, yeah, I’m rethinking the Rizzo/Castro duo. Hence the mid-game tinkering.

This is the fun, folks. Just saying. Sign up. Start tinkering.
