Well, it’s not like Mat Latos isn’t good.
The Cubs’ bats came up with bupkis today, and lost another one-run game. They had a good chance in the 8th when a couple quick base runners bounced Latos from the game, but a sac bunt, a Soriano strikeout, and a great play up the middle ended the threat. And then it was Aroldis Chapman time. (Incidentally, wouldn’t it be nice to have a guy like that in the 9th?)
Jeff Samardzija pitched well enough to win today, though he did give up quite a few hits. He worked out of several jams by way of the strikeout, and all in all pitched fairly well.
