BN Trade Deadline Blogathon: Hour 12 (and a Podcast!)

Chicago Cubs

lou piniella sleepingI am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 36 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.

We are 1/3 of the way through the BN Blogathon, and the Trade Deadline is less than 24 hours away. Chatter is definitely picking up.

I mentioned it in the last update: we recorded a podcast today! It’s episode 36 of the BN Podcast, and you can find it at the bottom of this post (or you can subscribe on iTunes). It’s heavy on – what else – trade rumors, and we also get into a ton of emails. It’s a fun one this week.

Total Posts So Far:

News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:

Things started flying a bit: more Nate Schierholtz smoke, the Indians picked up a lefty reliever (not James Russell), and the Cubs were attached to Ian Kennedy (as in, like, buying Ian Kennedy).

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

While the Schierholtz thing is more probable and maybe even more impactful, that Kennedy piece has the wheels in my head turning. I think the timing just doesn’t work well for the Cubs, even if the buy low opportunity is intriguing. We’ll see if anything further comes from it.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

Buying Kennedy sure would shake things up, yes?

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Plain ‘ole Coke Zero from the fridge.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

My eyes feel sticky. The kind of sticky I usually associate with tired. No thanks, eyes. Stop that.
