The Cubs just scored one fewer run than they’ve scored in the entire past week combined. More surprising? They won!
Today’s game was pretty much the antithesis of everything the Cubs have done this year, right down the good-enough performance by Edwin Jackson, the relative sturdiness of the late-inning relievers, and the prodigious display of power.
Hector Rondon’s scoreless streak finally ended, but, even in so doing, he looked pretty darn good in two innings of work. The Cubs got homers from Mike Olt(!), Welington Castillo(.), and Darwin Barney(?). And a fan favorite was back to doing his thing.
