If you’re looking for a smile today, look no further than Chris Rusin’s start for the Iowa Cubs:
9 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB, 3 K.
Yup, that’s a no-hitter.
It’s a great feather in the cap for Rusin, who was hoping to be in the Chicago Cubs’ rotation this year, but didn’t quite make it out of Spring Training, and has been putting in his work at AAA while he waits for an opportunity. One start, alone, won’t get him there, and he now faces a lot of competition for the next open rotation job – Tsuyoshi Wada might get the first crack, and guys like Kyle Hendricks, Eric Jokisch (who threw a no-hitter last year at AA), Dallas Beeler, and Carlos Pimentel could also receive consideration – but this can only help.
Good for Rusin. I have enjoyed this.
(Oh, also: Javier Baez had three hits in the game.)
