Javier Baez and Kris Bryant Each Went Deep Last Night (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

I was going to offer this as a salve to the horrible, horrible loss yesterday, but Tom Ricketts’ announcement that the Cubs are going to move forward with the Wrigley renovation with or without a deal with the rooftops probably already did that for you.

So, I guess you’ll just have to enjoy Javier Baez and Kris Bryant each going deep last night for your own reasons. I’m sure you’ll find a way.

Bryant’s homer was an opposite field laser that just barely gets out, though it was going for extra bases either way. His power is so effortless:

Baez’s homer was of the more traditional pulled-huge-bomb variety, but I love watching the pitcher’s reaction. He missed his spot badly, and he knows immediately that he’s not getting away with the mistake:

It’s also interesting to see, and Luke pointed this out this morning as well, that Baez has significantly quieted his bat pre-pitch. It now rests on his shoulder (not unlike Bryant, actually), before he loads up, adds in just a little waggle, and unleashes. It’s not nearly as noisy and violent a process as it once was, and there’s clearly some adjusting going on. Baez did strike out in each of his other three at bats last night, but who’s counting?

Marco Hernandez, Wes Darvill, Arismendy Alcantara, and Christian Villanueva (twice) all went deep yesterday, too. So that’s neat.
