That’s about as bad as it gets. Stud starting pitcher is bombed out. Stud first baseman is tossed out. Entire offense is wiped out.
Jeff Samardzija hadn’t laid an egg in a long time, and, subject to his health and effectiveness in his next few starts, I tend to think it won’t mean anything going forward. It’ll just be chalked up as one of those days.
You’ll forgive my conspiracy-inclined comment: when John Baker was catching in this series, the Brewers were dominated. When Welington Castillo was catching, Cubs pitchers were bombed. Any chance the Brewers were seeing Castillo’s fingers a little more clearly than Baker’s?
