It doesn’t really matter how a season is going – walk-off wins and comeback wins are always fun. This one was both.
Jake Arrieta was at his most Arrieta-like tonight – not much damage, but so many pitches, and such a short outing. Over his 4.2 innings of work, Arrieta allowed 10 baserunners and required 105 pitches. Sure, it was nice that he gave up just one earned run, and, sure, not all of the hits were scalded, but it was a very inefficient outing.
For most of the game, it looked like that one run was going to be enough for the Cubs to drop another game. But the bullpen was fantastic, Chris Coghlan came through with his first homer of the year (his first really meaningful moment with the Cubs so far), and then Nate Schierholtz walked it off by scoring Anthony Rizzo in the bottom of the 9th.
