Enhanced Box Score: Marlins 3, Cubs 5 – June 6, 2014

Jason Hammel hasn’t given up a run in either of his last two starts, and he was just stupid good again today against a surprisingly good Marlins lineup.

The Cubs didn’t net a baserunner until the fifth inning, but that baserunner – Nate Schierholtz, who had singled – later scored on a Chris Coghlan double. Anthony Rizzo added a two-run double in the 8th, which proved to be important, because …

The Marlins tied things up in the 9th, thanks to three – literally all three – bloop nothing hits that loaded the bases. A runner scored on a Justin Bour groundout (on which he was called safe, but reversed on review (not sure it should have been, based on the review standard, but whatever)), and then two more on the only legit hit on the inning – a single by, who else, Reed Johnson.

From there, the game dragged on into extras … and then, in the 13th, the same guy did it again. No, not Johnson. Rizzo. The Cubs love them some walk-offs lately.
