Cubs Minor League Daily: Kris Bryant Slams the Iowa Cubs to a Win

iowa cubs logoThe title pretty much says it all. Kris Bryant’s sixth Iowa homer and twenty eighth season homer came with the bases loaded in the eighth and put the Cubs ahead.

I don’t think this article needs any more introduction than that. The video pretty much speaks for itself.

Scores From Yesterday

Iowa – Bryant’s long ball helped push this game into extra innings where Iowa won 7-6 in ten.
Tennessee – The Smokies took the game into the tenth, but lost 3-2.
Daytona – The Cubs had the day off.
Kane County – Kane County was rained out.
Boise Hawks – The Hawks gave up nine runs between the seventh and the eighth to lose this one 11-5.
Arizona – The Arizona Cubs also had the day off.

Performances of Note

  • [Iowa] Kris Bryant finished the day 2 for 4 with the home run and a walk.
  • [Iowa] Manny Ramirez also homered and finished 3 for 4. Javier Baez doubled, walked, and finished 2 for 4.
  • [Iowa] Carlos Pimentel struck out 8 over 5 innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks.
  • [Tennessee] Matt Loosen struck out 5 and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks in his 6 innings on the mound. Jeffry Lorick and Lendy Castillo combined to strike out 5 in their 3 innings of relief.
  • [Tennessee] Jae-Hoon Ha and Elliot Soto both finished with 2 hits, including a double for Soto. Dustin Geiger also doubled.
  • [Boise] Mark Zagunis finished 2 for 4 with a double and played left field.
  • [Boise] Rashad Crawford and Jesse Hodges also had 2 hits each.
  • Other News

  • In case you missed it yesterday, Jason McLeod is staying with the Cubs organization. On a scale of happiness, this should rate roughly equal to winning a lifetime supply of chocolate peppermint milk shakes banana fluffernutter smoothies.
  • I went looking last night, and since 2006 I could only find three hitters with at least 250 PA in the Southern League who finished with an ISO over .300. Kris Bryant leads the pack at .347. Paul Goldschmidt is next at .320, followed by Neftali Soto at .303. Had I lowered the threshold to 240 PA I would have picked up Giancarlo Stanton (2010 edition) at .417 and Javier Baez at .344.
