Well, if you like your stories positive, the Cubs made a game of this one. Despite giving up three runs in the first and looking completely overmatched by Johnny Cueto, the Cubs managed to get things close (and keep it interesting in the 9th off of Aroldis Chapman) before losing.
Travis Wood gave up those three in the first, and looked like the recent incarnation of his shaky self before settling down and throwing well over the middle innings. The Cubs got a couple runs off of two solo homers from Chris Coghlan and Ryan Sweeney, who went back-to-back off of Cueto in the 6th. But that was it for the scoring.
The good(?) news is that the Cubs will get to try again in a few hours in the second game of the doubleheader.
