In a well-deserved honor, Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is the National League’s Player of the Week.
And there was much celebration.
Rizzo’s three homers and 14 total bases led baseball this past week, and he’s seen his overall season slash line climb to .281/.384/.522. His .392 wOBA is 13th best in baseball, and 6th in the NL. His 23 homers are tied for the NL lead. Were Rizzo on a better team, he’d be getting MVP chatter.
As it is, we’ll just have to know for ourselves that the 24-year-old Rizzo is awesome, and should be a part of excellent Cubs teams to come. We always thought Rizzo could be very good … but this good? It makes me smile something fierce.
