My momma didn’t raise no fool, so I know what folks are going to want to watch this evening on an endless loop as they prepare for their evening activities, settle into a warm bath, or drift off to sleep to dream of cookies.
Also, I love me a good home run video, so this is a win-win opportunity.
Javier Baez exploded today even more than in his MLB debut, notching three hits, two of which were homers. Let’s watch them.
Here’s the first one, which was a sky shot down the left field line:
Baez showed off not only his bat speed there, but also the ability to get his hands in and barrel up the ball on the inside. That’s impressive, given how much plate coverage Baez shows to the outside.
Speaking of which, here’s his second homer, which was a laser to right center that really shows off Javy’s unnatural power:
That was really not a bad breaking pitch. It had good bite, was down in the zone, and was on the outer half. It’s just, well, Javy Baez has insane power and can do things like that.
Three games for Baez, three homers. Your fun with small samples numbers for Baez: .286/.286/.929, .519 wOBA, 238 wRC+, and, best of all, a 21.3% K rate. But, those things don’t really matter yet. We’re just having fun.
And this has been a really, really fun week.
