Jorge Soler Goes Deep, Fan Sacrifices for the Ball (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs

Last night’s game was a lot of fun for a number of reasons, most of them tied to Jake Arrieta mowing down Reds batters like so many blades of ineffectual grass, but Jorge Soler’s homer was also fantastically enjoyable.

Not only for the blast, itself:

But also for what happened in the bleachers thereafter:

Or, in picture form:

wedding ring trouble

Among the lessons we can all take away: (1) Always high five with your right hand, (2) tighten your wedding ring if it’s loose, and (3) make sure, if you do lose your wedding ring, that it takes place on TV so that there’s no way your wife can deny your story.

The good news is that, by all appearances, there was Cubs staff immediately working with the fan in the stands to get his ring back, which was spotted on the warning track.

One thing I wonder: by losing the ring onto the field, did the fan also lose all of his leverage to get some sweet swag in exchange for the ball, assuming Soler wanted his first homer at Wrigley ball? Maybe the Cubs staff was like, “Sure, we’ll trade you for the ball … your wedding ring for the ball.” And then there was probably a sinister laugh of some sort, complete with mustache twisting.

Here’s more video on the original ring toss, and then the fan’s reaction (he did get to swap the ball for an autograph, and, GAH, he’s a White Sox fan!):
