Haven’t Seen Kris Bryant Get a New Honor in a While? You’re in Luck!

Chicago Cubs

major award leg lamp trophyThe pace of awards and accolades for top Chicago Cubs prospect – ok, top Earth prospect – Kris Bryant has slowed over the last week. Not because love for Bryant is waning, of course. It’s just that you can’t hand out the same award twice. If you could, I have no doubt that Bryant would have been named Baseball America’s player of the year on Monday, and on Tuesday, and on Wednesday …

But there is a new honor to mention with respect to Bryant’s 2014 season: MLB Pipeline (that’s MLB.com’s prospect thing) name him to the 2014 All-Prospect Team at third base. Not unlike the other awards and honors, this is a no-brainer.

There is no other position on the prospect team where you can really say a Cubs prospect was snubbed (though I could make an argument for Armando Rivero as the reliever), given that certain guys missed time and/or didn’t have enormous seasons.

Next year, though? Imagine if Addison Russell isn’t promoted too early and Kyle Schwarber sticks behind the plate. Give them the shortstop and catcher spots, give two outfield spots to Albert Almora (he’s gonna have a huge bounce-back year) and Billy McKinney (quietly so very promising), Dan Vogelbach can grab the first base spot with a big year, and then give C.J. Edwards that starting righty spot … I’m mostly just having a little fun. Because fun is fun. And there’s only so much more you can say about Bryant in a post about Bryant.
