Because we routinely use advanced statistics and sabermetrics around here, and because not everyone is interested in reading up on the concepts around the web, I thought it would be helpful for BN’ers for me to put together a series of short videos on some of the most important sabermetric ideas. Today’s advanced statistic is BABIP – batting average on balls in play – one of the most frequently cited advanced stats, but one that I’m not sure is always used correctly:
