It’s not really SCardenfreude until something bad actually happens, and when the Cardinals are already in the damn NLCS, you’d have to be pretty tone deaf to lulz at a potential problem of theirs (especially an injury).
But, although it shouldn’t be a source of joy for anyone, this is fairly newsworthy to folks following the playoffs and hopeful that the Cardinals won’t win too many more games: there are some concerns about the elbow of Cardinals’ ace, and presumptive NLCS Game 1 starter, Adam Wainwright.
You can read Derrick Goold’s report for the full story. The gist is, Wainwright is still expected to start the game, but the Cardinals are preparing Lance Lynn just in case. Mike Matheny has conceded that Wainwright is pitching through elbow discomfort, but believes he’ll be able to go on Saturday.
Wainwright, who has had Tommy John surgery once in his career. He has thrown more than 500 innings (and counting) over the past two seasons between the regular season and playoffs, with another 215 in 2012, his first year back from Tommy John. Some soreness is to be expected for the 33-year-old righty. You wonder at what point the Cardinals could be burned for riding their ace so hard these last few years.
