It’s Kris Bryant, obviously. The only surprise is that, in the fan voting, Bryant actually came in third place behind a couple guys with really desperate fan bases.
The staff of MiLB.com, however, did the right thing – the only thing – and gave Bryant the MiLBY for the top offensive player in the minor league baseball this year. There’s a lengthy read here on the selection, which is a warm stroll down memory lane. A fun point of emphasis from many interviewed in the piece? Bryant still has a lot he can do to make himself better.
You are reminded that Bryant hit .325/.438/.661 at AA and AAA in his first full professional season, and led all of baseball with 43 homers. He – the guy who did that – can get better.
Hopefully he does it after he gets to the big leagues at some point next season, because the Cubs could use a huge bat or five. That is to say, after winning every minor league and prospecting award possible this year, I hope Bryant never wins another one.
On to the big league hardware.
