World Series Miscellany: We’re Going to Get a Game 7 in the World Series

Chicago Cubs

a world series trophyFor just the second time in twelve years, we’re going to get to see a Game 7 in the World Series. It delays the offseason by a day, which I’m sure perturbs some of you anxious folks, but I’m pretty excited about it.

  • The Royals slapped the ball around early against the Giants, and Yordano Ventura pitched seven scoreless, leading the way to a 10-0 win. Seven of those runs came in the second inning when the Royals just got hit after hit after hit, some of them plenty flukey. But, hey, sometimes that happens.
  • Jake Peavy was on the mound for the start of that second inning, but he didn’t finish it. His final line: 1.1 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 2 K. Will that impact his offseason contract negotiations? We discussed yesterday, again, the Cubs’ possible interest there.
  • A fun tweet on the subject of Peavy in the postseason:

  • Giants reliever Hunter Strickland gave up another homer, his sixth in the postseason. That’s a record. Not the kind you want.
  • Game 7 comes tonight at 7pm CT on FOX, with Tim Hudson and Jeremy Guthrie nominally the starters. I say nominally the starters, because you can expect to see Madison Bumgarner pitch in relief at some point, even on short rest (it’s Game 7), and you will see the Royals go with their three-headed Herrera/Davis/Holland monster early and maybe for more than three innings total (it’s Game 7).
  • This is as exciting as it gets in baseball when the Cubs aren’t involved. I can’t wait.
