Another MLB award, and another consolation prize for a Chicago Cubs player who had a great season. Tonight’s installment belongs to Anthony Rizzo, who finished 10th in NL MVP voting behind Clayton Kershaw (good on the voters for giving him the award), Giancarlo Stanton, Andrew McCutchen, Jonathan Lucroy, Anthony Rendon, Buster Posey, Adrian Gonzalez (AGAIN!), Adam Wainwright, and Josh Harrison.
I acutally don’t have much of a beef with this one, and I think it’s great that Rizzo got some recognition for his huge year despite being on a last place team. Gonzalez finishing ahead of Rizzo remains ridiculous, but whatever. It’s a really solid showing by Rizzo, and, by and large, by the voters.
Congrats to Rizzo on the fantastic year.
Mike Trout took home the award in the AL, which was not only assumed, but he was a unanimous choice.
