Last week, we talked about how the pitchers and catchers report date is more symbolic than functional, given that so many of the Chicago Cubs’ pitchers and catchers had already reported to Mesa, Arizona for Spring Training before the actual reporting date. But it marked the end of the offseason, and we celebrated it anyway.
Today is the position player reporting date, which feels like it has even less functional importance, because, when I search the top of my head, I have trouble coming up with more than a handful of guys that I’m not already aware have reported. And those guys might be there, I’m just not aware of it.
Still, it’s a date to get a little excited. Content. Satisfied. Something like this:
So, yeah. It’s a “hey, ok, today’s pretty cool” kind of day.
The first full team workout is tomorrow.
