Despite increased bouts of cold and snowy weather, the left field bleachers remain on schedule to open May 11 at Wrigley Field, and the left field video board should be operational for Opening Day, Cubs VP of Communications and Community Affairs told the Tribune. Fingers crossed that remains the case for the next couple months, and the Cubs don’t have to go for too long without the extra seating capacity. (Tom Ricketts apparently just suggested the same to the media in Mesa (Carrie Muskat).)
There’s no comment in that Tribune piece about right field, which is expected (as of the Convention, anyway) to be open in late May. The right field signage remains the primary subject of the recent rooftops lawsuit, so we’ll see if there winds up being any impact to the timeline there. For entirely selfish reasons, I hope the right field bleachers open up on schedule in late May, because that’s where I like to sit. I will miss it. I miss it already …
In the meantime, you can see some pictures of the latest from Wrigley here at Bleed Cubbie Blue, as left field’s outer wall is starting to look vaguely like a ballpark again. Not so much on right field right now, though.
Also, a couple more shots from the folks you should be following on Twitter for the latest visuals:
