After getting all the second opinions necessary, Rangers ace Yu Darvish will indeed be going under the knife. His partially-torn UCL was first reported last week, and now it’ll result in him missing the 2015 season and then some. The team announced today that the surgery would take place on Tuesday at the skills hands of Dr. James Andrews.
It’s a brutal blow to the Rangers’ already-slim hopes for the 2015 season, and they’ve already said they plan to fill the rotation void internally. It’s possible they’ll still try to add some depth, but it seems equally possible they’ll punt again on a grim-looking season (which, itself, follows a terrible 2014 season savaged by injuries).
For the game, it’s another top arm that goes down in his prime. It sucks, because Darvish was always fun to watch. Hopefully guys like Matt Harvey and Jose Fernandez come back strong this year from their own Tommy John surgeries to fill the void.
Well, I mean, don’t come back so strong that it muddies up the NL Wild Card picture too much, but you know what I mean.
