I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to make a joke about Edwin Jackson finding his way to the ballpark in Surprise today.
That’s where the Cubs are heading to take on the Royals today, with Jackson on the mound. I’d imagine the Cubs are hoping Jackson pitches well enough in his final two spring outings to justify either a trade partner’s interest (for a couple million in salary savings) or to justify the Cubs keeping Jackson on the roster as a part-time starter and/or reliever. There are no reasons for optimism at this point.
Today’s game is on WGN-9, or MLB.tv if you don’t get WGN. It’s also on WBBM radio.
Lineup:
- Tommy La Stella, 3B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Miguel Montero, C
- Kris Bryant, LF
- Ryan Sweeney, RF
- Javier Baez, 2B
- Mike Baxter, 1B
- Edwin Jackson, P
- Arismendy Alcantara, CF
Kris Bryant gets his second start in left field, and Addison Russell gets another start. Assuming each is headed to AAA Iowa to start the season, each start from here on out could be their last in the Cactus League.
