Cubs Ended Cactus League Slate with a Homer Party – Rizzo, Soler, Fowler, La Stella (VIDEO)

Today is an off-day for the Cubs – an awkward pause because the Cactus League and two exhibition games at Chase Field, and then the start of the regular season.

Yesterday, the Cubs closed down their slate of Cactus League games with a win, built in large part on four homers against the Brewers. If they do it again on Sunday, I will smile a lot. For today, we can just re-live the four against the Brewers – or you can catch ’em if you missed ’em.

Tommy La Stella: That’s a pretty good show of opposite field power for a guy without a ton of it. Yeah, I’d imagine that’s a bit of an “Arizona” home run, but still – good distance.

Anthony Rizzo: Opposite field, 0-2 pitch? Just a go-with-it and make good contact swing? And the ball still jumps? I love that. Not everyone can do that.

Dexter Fowler: A more traditional homer – the pitch is up and running back over the plate, Fowler gets his hands in quickly and rips it.

Jorge Soler: That is a laser beam, rocket shot that leaves the park in about 2 seconds. And Soler takes that pitch on the outer edge and yanks it to the left center alley. That’s serious bat speed and serious power. If you can’t tell how crazy the homer is on the first viewing, wait for the replay where you can see the whole field.

So, which homer is your favorite? Does the Soler liner make that question too easy? Probably. But I also really like the Rizzo homer, because he made it look so easy.

Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 3, Diamondbacks 2 – April 15, 2024

Un-be-lievable. That game went from snooze-fest to nail-biter in a HURRY. And I don't think I'm too far off base saying the Cubs got pretty lucky in that one. Not only were they able to tie the game in the...

Andrew McCutchen is an Extremely Elite Person

Hector Neris Has Had a Brutal Start to the Year – But What Can the Cubs Do?

Former Cubs Pitcher Ken Holtzman Has Passed Away

Although he pitched before my time, I always think of two things when I hear the name Ken Holtzman: very good lefty, two no-hitters. Indeed, Holtzman was one of the most successful starting pitchers in Cubs history, and recorded two...
