[On Monday, April 6 – an off-day for the Cubs, so give yourself something to do – DraftKings is holding a $100,000 one-day fantasy contest. One participant from BN will win a signed Anthony Rizzo bat, and five others will win BN shirts. Plus, you know, there’s the $100,000 in cash prizes part. Sign up here, which supports BN. Full details here.]
So, I’m not eligible to win the signed Anthony Rizzo bat (which is sitting right behind me as I type, taunting me with the knowledge that I’ll soon have to send it away to one of you), and I won’t take any of the BN shirt prizes away from you guys. But I can still win some cash in this Opening Day contest – plus, it’s fun to play and beat you guys. So I’m playing.
I’m 99% sure I’m done tinkering with my lineup for Monday’s contest. If you promise not to just steal my entire roster (which perfectly uses up every last dollar of my allotted budget), I’ll show it to you:
I don’t love every player individually there, but I like the matchups. And I’m told it’s a good idea to stack players from the same team in these contests (because if one goes off, there’s a higher likelihood that other guys in the same lineup will get you some points). Because I dug the Giants’ matchup against Josh Collmenter, and because I could get some of them pretty cheap, I went with Posey/Belt/McGehee as my core. From there, I wanted Desmond/Harper (the latter of whom was way too cheap), and I wanted a couple big bats in the outfield. I really like Samardzija and Archer as my starters, especially given their matchups (Samardzija faces the Royals, and Archer faces the Orioles).
Thoughts? I had to go cheap on Gyorko to make the rest of it work, so I don’t love that pick. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy.
And, of course, if you want to play, too, sign up here. Just by signing up through that link, you have a chance to win the signed Rizzo bat, and, if you finish in the top 5 of BN’ers, you’ll win a BN shirt. Full details here.
