A little afternoon fun …
I suddenly remember how passé – but still totally awesome – it was when Kris Bryant homered last Summer. They were fun to watch every single time, but it was so expected. It’s just what he did. We breathe, Kris Bryant hits homers.
I remember it now, because he’s doing it again. Another day, and another homer for Bryant:

I love the call on that one – very casual, another drive for Bryant, yada yada, oh wow it went out! The pitcher missed his spot badly, and Bryant punishes those balls on the outer half since he’s got as much easy opposite field power as anyone I can remember in recent years.
As he does, Bryant is currently slugging .750.
Joining Bryant with a homer, Addison Russell notched his first at AAA Iowa:

A hanger out over the plate, and Russell does with it exactly what he should: drills it to deep left center.
Through four games at AAA, Russell is hitting .389/.421/.611 with that homer, a double, a walk, and ZERO strikeouts. Although he’s younger than Bryant, and his path to a position in the bigs is a little less clear, I’m really not sure it’s going to be that long after Bryant comes up that we see Russell in the big leagues.
