Being that this here site relies on advertisements – and readers viewing them rather than using ad-blockers (which means I don’t get paid when you read (so please consider not using ad-blockers and/or white-listing BN)) – I have a peculiar interest in the way other businesses use advertising to get across their message, and to generate revenue.
So, maybe it’s just me, but I think this is a pretty clever way for the Cubs to get a little extra attention for a sponsor, while simultaneously taking advantage of their new video board:
#W: A new twist on an old tradition after wins at Wrigley Field. http://t.co/1AddrWvivD pic.twitter.com/2W8kEiiWtD

Not only does the lit “W” serve a functional purpose since you can’t always see the “W” flag at night, it’s also actually a historical thing at Wrigley Field. According to Vine Line, the Cubs used red and blue lights on the side of The Old Scoreboard to denote wins and losses from that day’s game – a tradition that lasted some 75 years. (Confession: I had no idea.)
Now, the bright blue W in Wintrust will do the same thing, and you can see it from far away in Wrigleyville. I think that’s both cool and clever.
