I don’t have too much more to offer than the headline there, but Chicago Cubs center fielder (and leadoff man (he’s kind of important)) Dexter Fowler left tonight’s game against the Pirates and was replaced by Chris Denorfia. Official word is “right groin tightness.”
As near as I can tell, Fowler has not had any kind of serious groin issues in the past, so that’s good. It’s about 40 degrees in Pittsburgh tonight, so the Cubs were probably going to be extra cautious with any leg issues that popped up with their players. Maybe that’s all this is – an abundance of caution.
I’d imagine we’ll learn more after the game, and hopefully Fowler is just in a day-to-day situation. If it’s more than that, the Cubs will have to bring back Matt Szczur or Arismendy Alcantara, unless they wanted to change things up and bring up Junior Lake.
UPDATE: A little more …
#Cubs Fowler apparently injured his groin on infield single in 1st but did steal 2nd base

He played a couple innings after that in the field, too. Perhaps we could consider that a good sign? That it wasn’t an immediate groin explosion? Fingers crossed.
