Tonight’s win was fairly straightforward and boring. THE BEST KIND OF BORING.
Anthony Rizzo came through twice, and Kris Bryant knocked in the other two runs. Pitchers have just got to love facing these guys every time the lineup turns over (after facing Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler, and before facing Starlin Castro and some quality platoon bats).
Chris Coghlan hit the ball hard every time he was up, but had nothing to show for it except a few warning track shots (cold, wind blowing in) and a line-drive double play.
Also, every run the Cubs scored tonight came with two outs. That’s just awesome.
The Cubs needed only one of those runs, though, because Jason Hammel never gave the Pirates a chance.
