In his first at bat today, Addison Russell worked a full count, and then got the kind of pitch you’d expect to see thrown to other 9-hole hitters with a full count.
Since Russell isn’t quite other 9-hole hitters, he did what you should do with that kind of pitch:
That’s a quick, strong swing.
Now the obligatory crack about, if you’d asked in Spring Training who would have the first big league homer, Kris Bryant or Addison Russell, you probably would have slapped the asker. But, so it is. Hopefully the first of many for Russell.
