In recognition of his absurdly good start to the season – something we discussed again and again (and again) – the Chicago Cubs today named AA Tennessee first baseman Dan Vogelbach the organization’s Player of the Month for April. Being that he was twice the player of the week in the entire Southern League, it’s pretty clear Vogelbach was deserving of this honor, despite the huge month put up by his teammate, Kyle Schwarber (and the truly impressive showing Gleyber Torres is putting on down at South Bend).
For the month, Vogelbach hit .362/.470/.594, and struck out just 10 times against 14 walks. Really an incredible month at AA.
On the pitching side, there were a handful of worthy names, but Jeremy Null’s unbelievable beginning to the season at Low-A South Bend gets him the nod. Not only did Null post a 0.79 ERA for the month of April over four starts, but he struck out 23 of the 84 batters he faced without walking a single one. Null, too, has come in for heavy praise around here.
Null, 21, was the Cubs’ 15th round pick last year.
