I love this.
Today’s lineup continues the shake-up of the middle of the order, but in a good way. Dexter Fowler also gets a day off, so things look very different against John Lackey:
- Chris Coghlan, LF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Miguel Montero, C
- Jorge Soler, RF
- Starlin Castro, SS
- Matt Szczur, CF
- Jake Arrieta, P
- Addison Russell, 2B
I’ve said for a very long time that I prefer Anthony Rizzo in the two-hole. He’s the best overall hitter on the team, and that’s where the best overall hitter should go in my book.
… but, given the way Kris Bryant has been pitched and the way he’s been greedily accepting his walks, I really have no beef with he and Rizzo going 2-3. It’s really six of one, half dozen of the other.
Split the series today, gents. It’ll very much feel like a series win.
