Although it would have been a little harder to enjoy if the Cubs hadn’t held on to win last night, here’s something to make you smile if you didn’t see it.
On a routine grounder to the left side in the 6th inning, Kris Bryant fielded the ball cleanly and threw to first. Nothing to see there. Except for the guy immediately behind Bryant:

Immediately thereafter – and for reasons wholly unrelated to that play – the game got a little tighter and things got a little dicier. I suspect, primarily for that reason, some people had a problem with what Castro did.
But, here’s the thing: baseball, at it’s ultimate core, is supposed to be fan entertainment. And it’s a lot more entertaining when the guys we’re watching (1) are human, and (2) have fun.
So, I really enjoyed Castro spontaneously showering our eyeballs with a little joy. Well, as long as Anthony Rizzo knew where the ball was coming from (here’s his reaction):
