It was so nice to be back in the bleachers.
Sure, the fact that the Cubs won and a couple guys went deep certainly helped. But there’s just a vibe out there – and the kinds of interactions you have – that just isn’t matched anywhere else you might sit in sports. There’s a reason I named this place what I did.
I’ll have to look back at the PITCHf/x, but it sure looked like Jon Lester was getting squeezed at a few key moments tonight. Still, he pitched well enough to keep the lead for the Cubs, and the bullpen did the rest. About that, more in a second.
As for the lead, it came largely courtesy of back-to-back jacks by Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. Bryant’s homer – a bomb – was the first into the new, people-filled bleachers.
