You have no idea how hard it was not to do some variation of Stella and the return of her Groove in that title. I’ll have to fight the urge again when he’s activated from the disabled list …
Tommy La Stella, who played in a couple extended Spring Training games this week after recovering from his side/rib cage injury, is now ready to head out for a minor league rehab assignment. According to multiple reports, La Stella will head to AA Tennessee.
Gauging the length of his stay there, and/or whether he’ll then see some time at AAA Iowa before returning to the Cubs, is really a guessing game. It’s a little easier to estimate how long a pitcher will take to be ready, because there’s something of a regularity to their returns, whether starting or relieving. La Stella’s return will depend on how he’s feeling, and how quickly he’s able to feel sharp and comfortable at the plate.
Hopefully it’s a short stay, and we see La Stella back on the Cubs’ bench soon. As we discussed earlier this week, even if he’s not starting, La Stella can help this team.
