The confession here is that, thanks to a long day of travel – I was up at 4am ET yesterday, traveling with The Wife and The (small) Kiddos to Austin by way of two flights – I couldn’t make it to the end of last night’s rain-delayed game.
So, I was simultaneously bummed and excited to wake up to see that the game ended on a non-traditional defensive play by David Ross and Anthony Rizzo, which kind of felt like yet another walk-off:
There’s some risk in a play like that, and it rarely works. But Clint Robinson was clearly drifting too far off of first – apparently repeatedly – and Rizzo signaled to Ross to make the throw. Ross did, Robinson was out, and the game was saved without anyone having to continue worrying about Hector Rondon.
