Ah. At long last. The offensive explosion.
Given the Cubs’ offensive capabilities, this was always possible. They’d certainly showed the other side of the coin enough this year. The 12 runs the Cubs scored were a season high, and just about everyone had a good night at the plate.
Interestingly, the Cubs didn’t wear shirts under their jerseys (a la George Costanza’s cotton idea), and they did this. So you can pretty much bank on them doing it again soon.
On the pitching side, Jake Arrieta was fantastic – the three runs he gave up came on a weakly hit single, a hard-hit single that Kris Bryant almost caught, and then a three-run homer. The bullpen was also flawless.
Speaking of three-run homers, the Cubs had two of them tonight (Chris Coghlan and Miguel Montero) after having just three on the year previously.
