The only solace I take from this game is the thanks that the many Cardinals runs mooted my early anger at the Cubs’ inability to cash in on opportunities with men on base. Turns out, that wouldn’t have been the difference. HOORAY!
Donn Roach didn’t have great command in his debut with the Cubs, and to be even a little successful, he’s got to have impeccable command. Sure, he didn’t get help behind him at times – but, again, when you’re a guy who allows 90% of the batters you face to put the ball in play, you’re going to live and die by the defense. Laudable effort, I suppose, but the Cubs will likely keep searching for a 5th starter if Tsuyoshi Wada has to miss more time.
As for the rest of the game, well … what can you say? A lot, I guess. But I try to keep this place at least moderately family-friendly.
Tomorrow is another day.
