Although top Chicago Cubs prospect Kyle Schwarber hits all kinds of homers, the one he hit yesterday for the I-Cubs seems to be his specialty: a roped laser to right field.
Check it out:
He hit that ball quite hard.
That was Schwarber’s only hit in the game, though it was obviously a good one. Something that I’ve noticed in these almost daily checks on Schwarber is an uptick in his strikeouts. He had two more last night, bringing his strikeout rate at AAA up to an elevated 32.3% after being just 20.2% at AA. His walk rate is just 8.1% after being more than double that at AA, too.
The sample is still tiny, however – 62 plate appearances – so there’s not yet cause for long-term concern. It’s just been noticeable, given how sublime Schwarber’s K/BB numbers were at AA. A good week, and the numbers can shift considerably.
