The Cubs had an off-day to put the Cardinals behind them and gear up for the Crosstown Cup, which may or may not excite you. Whether it does or not, you should know that today’s is probably a huge swing game for this series, because, while the Cubs will have Jon Lester going tomorrow, the White Sox will have Chris Sale. And, not to sound fatalistic, Sale is one of four or so pitchers in all of baseball that I’m just going to assume will mow the Cubs down. (Or any other team.)
That means Kyle Hendricks will have to hold down the White Sox, and the Cubs’ bats will have to be patient and work over rookie Carlos Rodon. He’s very good, but he can get wild at times.
The Cubs stack the lineup today with nothing but guys who can bat from the right side, plus Anthony Rizzo, who has obliterated lefties the past two years.
The Wife is now in Chicago with me, and, thanks to evening plans, the EBS may be delayed a bit.
