Doubleheaders breed weaker lineups, and, unfortunately, the Cubs didn’t do much with their stronger (on paper) lineup earlier today.
Now it’s Kyle Schwarber and Kris Bryant getting the night cap off, together with normal platoon member Chris Coghlan. The only real bummer is Bryant getting the game off when the Cubs are facing a lefty.
I’d say this regardless of that, but the Cubs desperately need a solid pop-up outing from Dallas Beeler. The bullpen is heavily taxed, and the one guy who the Cubs brought up today, Yoervis Medina, got shelled out of the pen in the early game.
The lefty starting for the Reds, by the way, is coming off of the disabled list (shoulder issue), and hasn’t started all season. He also has a 16.5% walk rate on the year. Be patient against Tony Cingrani, dudes.
