Cubs Designate Reliever Ben Rowen for Assignment to Make Room for Acquisitions

Chicago Cubs

Shortly after acquiring a couple pitchers today, each of whom needed a 25-man and 40-man roster spot, the Chicago Cubs designated sidearm reliever Ben Rowen for assignment.

The move opens up both a spot in the bullpen for Tommy Hunter, and a spot on the 40-man roster for Dan Haren (the other 40-man spot coming from Junior Lake, who was traded for Hunter).

Presumably the Cubs will waive Rowen in the hopes they can keep him. I still think he could be interesting.
