The first game of a hugely-important four-game set against the Giants, as Jason Hammel takes on Chris Heston.
Buster Posey sits for this one, so the Cubs get a bit of a lineup break. As for Heston, he was a pretty nondescript pitching prospect who has pitched his best at the big league level (not unlike the performance of guys like Joe Panik (injured) and Matt Duffy). It’s just something the Giants seem to do.
In three starts since coming back from his hamstring injury, Jason Hammel has pitched just 14.1 innings, allowing 19 hits, 6 walks, and striking out 11. It’s fair to say he’s been off.
