Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 6, White Sox 3 – August 15, 2015

Chicago Cubs

That was one of the sloppiest games I’ve seen in a long time. Not just errors on both sides, but bad decisions, mis-plays that aren’t quite errors, etc. Thankfully, the White Sox’s gaffes were more costly, and the Cubs, on the balance, probably played a touch better, too.

Jake Arrieta was solid, and Justin Grimm was his typical nasty self in relief.

The Cubs were great with runners on base tonight, and they gave themselves plenty of opportunities.

One curiosity: With two outs in the fifth, Addison Russell drilled his second double of the day. The White Sox then elected to walk Dexter Fowler … to face Kyle Schwarber. Sure, it was a lefty-lefty match-up, sure Fowler had doubled in Russell the at bat before, and sure Jose Quintana had made Schwarber look human twice before, but it still seemed a very improvident decision. Sure enough, Schwarber ripped a single, scoring Russell. Oops.
